Community Outreach

​May 8, 2026 - The Board has decided on two local organizations to support for the next year. They are Goochland Cares and Richmond Animal Care and Control (RACC). These two organizations do outstanding work in our communities and also need our help with donated items. They both have Amazon Wish Lists that can be used. AlI you need to do is email me the receipt or bring a copy of it to a meeting for credit for your donations (tickets for a raffle). We will also accept donations of knitted/crocheted items for the Clothes Closet at Goochland Cares and Kennel Mats for RACC. As you can see by Goochland Cares's list, they accept clothing for babies, children and adults. You may bring knitted items to a meeting and I will deliver those items. I will not be able to handle large quantities of canned goods, large bags of pet food, etc. Those are best sent via the Amazon Wish List. I have included the Goodland Cares sheets from their websites which include their delivery address. I will be taking the items for delivery once a month after our meetings and have already set an appointment time with them. So don't worry about having to deliver your items.

Please note! For every item you donate, whether through the Wish Lists or bringing to a meeting, you will receive 1 ticket per item to use at our Holiday Party. We had some great gifts last year and I know it will be the same this year. You will love the prize raffle, it's the highlight of our party.

Clothes Closet - At this time, our most needed items are:

• Winter clothing – all sizes

• Back-to-school clothing and shoes

• NEW children’s shoes

• NEW underwear/socks – all ages and sizes

• NEW washcloths and towels

• School supplies
   

Currently, we are NOT able to accept the following:

• Furniture without prior approval

• Baby cribs, walkers, bouncy chairs, etc.

• Exercise equipment.

RACC Wish List

Richmond Animal Care & Control (RACC) was established as the first city pound on June 5, 1902. Since then, it has served as the only open-admission public animal shelter in the City of Richmond. We provide humane care for more than 3,000 stray, sick, injured, and relinquished pets per year.
