Cast On - Who We Are & How to Join Us
about us
In 2025, we will meet in person on the second Saturday each month at Publix, John Rolfe Commons, 2250 John Rolfe Pkwy, Henrico, VA. Some months Zoom presentations will be sponsored. If they coincide with the in-person meetings, in some cases they may be projected on a screen at the meetings. The Zoom link will be shared for those members who prefer to join at home. Meetings include an educational presentation and social knitting. Show-and-tell is virtual on this website under Finished Objects and on the Guild's Facebook page. Members submit photographs of their completed pieces, along with information about the pattern name, designer, and type of wool.
Meeting virtually on Zoom enables us to invite experts and designers beyond the central VA area. Presenters at 2024 virtual meetings included Stephen West, Tanis Gray, and Beth Brown Reinsel. For the upcoming meeting schedule check out the Knit Wit page on this website or Events on our Facebook page.
In-person meetings are held at Publix at John Rolfe Commons at 2250 John Rolfe Pkwy, Henrico VA. Masks are advised for anyone feeling a bit unwell (a cold, for instance) or those unvaccinated.

frequently asked questions
What is a knitting guild?
A knitting guild is a group of knitters who gather to enjoy knitting programs, bring in skilled instructors, share their triumphs and mistakes, and enjoy the craft of knitting. Most guilds, like ours, also perform community service projects, such as knitting items for local shelters or From the Heart (https://fromtheheartstitchers.org). Many guilds, including ours, are associated with a larger organization such as TKGA, The Knitting Guild Association.
How often do you meet?
We meet once a month. Meetings are usually on the second Saturday of the month but subject to change depending on the availability of guest presenters.
Where do you meet?
For virtual presentations, the Zoom link is emailed to all active (dues paid) members the week of the meeting. In-person meetings are usually the second Saturday of each month at Publix at John Rolfe Commons, 2250 John Rolfe Pkwy, HenricoLegacy at Imperial , VA 23233. Please see the Contact Us section above for a map and directions.
Are COVID vaccinations required?
No, but masks are strongly advised (and appreciated) for anyone feeling a bit unwell (a cold, for instance) or those unvaccinated.
Does it cost anything to join?
Annual dues are $45. We use this money to fund activities such as hiring guest instructors for knitting classes and to support tools like this website.
Do I have to be a member of TKGA (The Knitting Guild Association) to join?
No. We are affiliated with TKGA, but regular members do not have to join TKGA in order to join River City Knitters.
Can you teach me to knit?
We don’t teach beginning knitting at our meetings, but some members may teach out of their homes. Also, the local knitting stores offer great classes for beginners. We can help troubleshoot and with techniques, as well as provide knitting techniques at each meeting.
Do I have to be an experienced knitter to join?
Absolutely not! We have members at all skill levels, from beginners to advanced knitters. We have found we always learn and progress with help from each other.
